Horse stables are not uncommon in the backyards and neighborhoods of Davie, and favorite pastimes include riding the trails provided at Tree Tops Park at Orange Drive and Nob Hill Road and along the canals and open space greenways throughout the town. The town also hosts national rodeos at its arena.
Davie has a dozen small neighborhood parks with tot lots, ball courts and various amenities. Three sports parks, the Robert H. Bamford Sports Complex at 3800 SW 92 Ave., the
Bill Gessner Sports Complex at 7099 SW 39th St. and Shenandoah park in the middle of the Shenandoah neighborhood offer baseball, softball and (at Bamford only) football and soccer fields.
Open Space and nature preserves include Robbins Lodge, 4005 Hiatus Road, Oakhill Equestrian Park, 3100 SW 130 Ave., Wolf Lake Park and land protected by Broward County near Flamingo Road.
Not to be missed, Flamingo Gardens is a 60 acre botanical garden preserve for hundreds of varieties of native trees and plants, an aviary which provides sanctuary to birds of prey including owls, hawks and the occasional bald eagle. There are also otters, alligators, pink flamingos, iguanas, and turtles at the
Gardens. Be sure to bring your kids (and camera) to the educational wildlife encounter offered 3 times a day. If you live close by it is well worth it to become a member. Members recieve discounts on plant and gift purchases, free tram rides and plants.
Children are sure to enjoy the Young At Art Children’s Museum, where rotating exhibits always include hands-on creative learning opportunities for kids and their families. And when they get a bit older, a Scout camp provides hours of fun and learning on the western fringes of town.
